The Basics

What Is Your Objective and Focus?
The objective is to bring together lead developers/CEOs of web music projects new and old with digital executives, and other people involved in indie and major labels. The focus is on strengthening community and making conversations
between people above possible. Our goal is to make the event
affordable for the attendees, cover our costs and compensate people involved with us in producing the event.

How Long And Big Is The Conference?
This will be a one day event and we are shooting for 200 attendees.

What’s The Outline of Content?
In “unconference” fashion, there will be no pre-planned presentations. The morning of, people will be encouraged to come to the front of the room and present their idea they would like to discuss/learn more about. A big focus will be the ‘tech showcase’ where music developers/companies/hackers etc can show off what they’ve done with the web and music.

That said, here is the context for the event:
There is a huge lack of constructive dialog between developers and innovators working with music on the Web and content creators/owners at record labels. The developers are convinced that the labels are simply out to screw/sue them, and the labels are certain that these developers are on earth to steal their works. We think there is a better way.

The event exists to put these two groups of people togehter and create conversations about creating sustainable projects that utilize creative works, making licensing easier and more available, connecting creators of these web services with mentors in the music industry and showcasing some of the new projects out there.

How will sessions go?
Keeping with the unconference style, there will be 2-4 discussions happening simulataneously so people can pick and choose somehting interesting to them. Probably two different “showcasing/speedgeeking” sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon to give ample time for everyone to check out all the projects.

*Do you have sponsors/leads already?
While we’d like the conference to be completely free, we’re making it a small fee ($35) to 1) help pay the bills and 2) to make people become more committed that they will show up. This is something that the guys putting together Mashup Camp shared with us.

Do you wish to create a wiki for the event?
There will definitely be a web-based wiki/site to share the idea, intent of the event and discussion and list of attendees.
